A size 8 pattern representing the lava of the Dragon Fly, the body is tied with olive chenille, the thorax is dubbed with spikey guard hairs and the head is yellow chenille wound over dumbbell eyes.

A size 8 pattern representing the lava of the Dragon Fly, the body is tied with olive chenille, the thorax is dubbed with spikey guard hairs and the head is yellow chenille wound over dumbbell eyes. Fish this pattern on a floating line, just subsurface, near the margins or fish it further out on a sinking line. The retrieve should be a jerky style, sometimes stripping it back, sometimes slow figure-of-eight-ing it back. Takes can be quite violent, so a high breaking strain leader should be used. The fly is mainly a lake pattern and is most effective from mid-summer to the end of the season.
