A fine, soft hare's ear mixture, essential to making the fur bodies of many trout flies. This is an easy fur to dub.
Hares ear dubbing is an essential tying material for so many flies that it's importance can not be understated. From nymphs to dry flies this material creates such a 'buggy' look on any kind of trout fly pattern.
Spun loosely as in the video below is the best way to spin hares ear for nymphs, whilst creating a dubbing loop will create ultra slim nymphs and dry flies. As with all dubbing the choice of tying thread colour is paramount to how your trout pattern will fish in the water. All colours will lighten if a lighter colour of thread is used than the colour of the dubbing material. The opposite is also true when using darker threads. It is always worth 'wetting' any new pattern to check you have the desired body colour.

The Jiri Klima Gold Jig head is a fantastic hook to tie on for creating river point flies when Czech Nymphing. The design means that the fly fishes upside down reducing greatly the chances of the fly getting stuck to both debris and rocks on the river bed. This particular pattern is one of my favourites accounting for many trout and grayling throughout the season.
