Jason, I think you're correct in relation to not quite giving it enough time when catching Carp from the surface. However, maybe try varying your technique and approach and see if results differ.

Beys guys.

I just thought I would let you and your readers know that our fishery is perfect for fly fishing for carp. We hold regular Monday evening sessions where one of our canals is for fly fishing only.

We are also looking to set up a national competition this summer. If you or any of your readers who write bogs would like to come down and sample the fly fishing for carp at the FLE Fishery in Hampshire you are more than welcome too come fish free of charge.

We hope to hear from you soon and see you down this way having fun.

Graham

Now this is very interesting as I am a Carp angler myself yet I have been considering taking to the fly for hot summers days or on certain pits where the Carp are just extremely wary to the usual anglers baits. I find my self struggling to catch Carp from the surface yet people tell me its the easiest way to catch them. Perhaps I have not gave it enough time to produce however I do believe by using the fly it will produce much more effectively. I have found your blog very interesting and helpful as it it exactly what I was looking for.

Another great fly that will no doubt take a good few fish. I am not really a lure fisher, preferring to use buzzers and nymphs but I may be tempted to make an exception with this one. Well done and tight lines for 2011.

This is a great little fly and it is one that I have used myself in the past and it will always get you a fish or two when other are struggling. I have never tried using guard hair but I will be giving it a go soon.

My favourite pattern is a black one and it never lets me down.

Super fly and well tied, and as usual great post. Cheers and tight lines for 2011.

What a cracking fly! I've already tied up several variants and I'm really looking forward to trying them on my local still water. I'm sure the movement of the wings on their side will prove tempting to some chunky fish- I'll keep you posted!
